Hunter has used a pacifier maybe five times in his short life---until this weekend.
At first we didn't want to use a pacifier because we wanted to make sure that he could breastfeed well. Once we established that, he wasn't really interested in the pacifier. That was fine by us!
But this weekend, it all changed. Put that thing anywhere near his mouth and he goes to town! He chews on it, though, he doesn't really suck. Also, he is drooling a lot and biting me during feedings. Since Saturday, he has been crying soooo much!
Could he be teething?
He hasn't had a fever. He is only 11 weeks old. But he keeps crying and shoving his hand in his mouth, even right after he eats!
My patience has been tried. He is obviously uncomfortable. I called the doc and they said he is too young for orajel. We'll see. Maybe his belly is hurting him?

He's getting pretty big, maybe he's still hungry. Make sure you drink lots of water and keep taking your vitamins.
ReplyDeleteOf course I could be completely wrong. I hope that you find out what's bothering him. I know it can be frustrating.
I gave Finley a few teething tablets (get them at CVS) and that seemed to help... you could try some Tylenol if its upsetting his sleep before bed. Is he still sleeping through the night? Finley is starting to get better, but he's pretty confused still.
ReplyDeleteMy thought was maybe he is hungry too? I wonder if your breast milk production is keeping up with this hunger? You could try a bottle of formula after a couple of feedings to see if he is interested in more food? I know he hasn't been taking a bottle so he might reject it outright, but it could be worth trying.
ReplyDeleteGripe water too. I am mailing you some right now!
Hang in there.
Thanks for your help, guys! I think you may be right about his hunger.... today he has had 3 feedings that have each lasted longer than an hour. It is like how it was when he was brand new! I think he is hungry and I think he is helping my milk to come in more.
ReplyDeleteHopefully that will work so I won't have to give him formula just yet. But we'll see.
Again, thanks for the advice. It helps so much! :)
